Heritage Places – Ksar Of Ait-Ben-Haddou

You are looking at the UNESCO World Heritage village of Ait-Ben-Haddou, with earthen habitat, built in 17th Century. There are still a few villagers who live with no electricity or running water in the Kasbah. I got to talk to one of the locals named Mohammed (every second person here has that name) and he said they don’t mind the lack of these facilities and rely on hand radio sets for news and other sports info. When they have to watch their favorite soccer team (most were Barca Fans) they come over to this side of the river (where this camera is shooting from and has all the hotels and tourist comforts). The river bed, which is dry now, would occasionally have a couple of inches of water and tourists would be transported using mules. 2 years ago, they built a bridge that the tourists could walk on, much to the displeasure of the locals, who were making some money with the donkey ferry. Ironically after making that bridge , the river has turned dry and never had water again :)
